While candidly disclosing hilarious and touching stories from their home lives, the tweens spell their way through a series of words, hoping never to hear the soul-crushing, pout-inducing, life un-affirming “ding” of the bell that signals a spelling mistake. The musical follows an eclectic group of middle school students as they vie for the spelling championship of a lifetime. Since then, the show has charmed audiences across the country with its effortless wit and humor. The musical was the winner of the Tony and the Drama Desk Awards for Best Book in 2005. The Colchester High School Theater Company will perform The 25 th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee, featuring music and lyrics by William Finn, in the Colchester Performing Arts Center on November 8, 9 and 10.
